Disruptive thought acts as a stimulant for growth. Sometimes a stimulant is needed to give an impulse to stagnation. Stagnation is often reached when there's lack of inspiration or when thinking is reaching a consensus mode of thinking. This tends to happens when an environment does not change much, including the people in that environment.
Knowing or not knowing
When you don't know where you want to go from one situation but you do want to go somewhere, disruptive thought comes at play and is a trigger for opening up new vistas. On the other hand, a situation of knowing where you want to go (and are willing to go to), but you don't know how, asks for skillful means. The difference is that in a situation of stagnation or status quo there is no consensus or even sight of where to go to from one situation. With a disruption things are shaken up and a new common ground can be established from that. From standing on that new common ground, new vistas will arise. And those new vistas will lead to awakened enthusiasm in order to move to another situation.
Another mode of thought
Thinking outside the box is a recurring phrase. But how to do it? Another saying is that the same mode of thinking which has led to the situation can't change the situation. Another mode of thinking is necessary to change the situation.
Sometimes it can be difficult to attain fresh ideas and insights when the individual and collective mind has been absorbed for prolonged periods in the same environment. The mind is then limited to pre-established patterns of thought. Hence it turns out to be difficult to find a solution for any given problem when the patterns of the mind are walking along the same paths as the problem itself is. When thought is walking along the same paths, it's easy to loose sight of new vistas and other potential behavior or dynamics.
Disruption
Disruption is a sometimes needed wake-up call get to our senses. To remind ourselves what we're trying to accomplish on a deeper level. Shaking things up in order to build a stronger foundation from which to continue. Getting rid of loose foundation stones and replacing them with steady concrete and cornerstones.
