Agile coaching

Are you "doing" agile but it doesn't feel like it? Lost faith in agile principles or the agile implementation? Looking for a renewed enthusiasm in agile? Agile coaching to the rescue!

Maybe you have experienced that becoming agile isn't as simple as an implementation process. Or that being agile takes more than implementing an agile method, model, framework or just by doing Scrum.

Maybe you want to become agile, or more agile, and need consult how to proceed. Without making a whole agile-implementation-plan or road-map, which is not agile at all. The process leading up to agile, or higher states of agility, should have the characteristics of agility, else only failure is guaranteed.

Agility is so much more than a model, framework or methodology. Agility is an evolutionary process, be it from an individual or organisational perspective. It's not easy. Becoming agile takes responsibility, will, determination and even courage.

Agile coaching is often limited to the question: "Could you please help our Scrum/agile teams becoming more agile?" or "Could you please advice our Scrum Masters to perform or work more agile?". These questions are being asked without fully understanding the implications of pursuing agility. The agile coach is sometimes limited to a restricted area of movement, e.g. only giving feedback to Scrum Masters or reviewing the Scrum process. And there's nothing wrong with this per se. Albeit restricted within the given confines and is often sub-optimization.

Major gains, possibilities to grow and reaching highers levels of agility as organisation, take often place outside the given boundaries. Outside of the confines as mentioned within the initial question.

Organite consults you regarding all matters of agility and on different levels of abstraction, high business level and lower implementation level, and in the organisation or individual. The biggest gains are when you are not limiting the area of movement within a restricted area - the bigger the area of movement, the bigger the potential gains of becoming more agile.

In Organite's view, agile coaching should not be so much centered around implementing a specific method, model or framework. Agile coaching should be more aiming to address the key qualities and talents of the organisation and empowering those to become more and more agile. Agile coaching should take the organisations uniqueness and the underlying characteristics of agility as starting point, for consulting the organisation to become more agile. It should not be about conforming to predetermined models so much.

The level of agility is not measured by the extent of adapted agile methods, but is measured by your own standards.

For a completely other way of organization dynamics and behavior, have a look into the conceptual white-paper of the natural organization, a new paradigm of organizational dynamics and organic organization (known under the previously working title of the spontaneous organization).
